You are absolutely right.. one time hit is a luck but it is not possible again and again. if you would like to be hit every time then there is only one way and that is practice .

Thanks for your great post.

I recently watched a talk by a computer scientist who was discussing social order, and he mentioned due to the confusing overlay of different hierarchies of success available in a capitalist democracy, our instinctual behavior to act as either an "individual" or "group" gets jerked around more than in any other social structure . He then went on to say this was necessary to keep us busy so we don't kill each other. Anyway, your post reminded me of this because having a staunch focus on the fundamentals of anything is becoming increasingly more specialized and confusing. Within one realm understanding the fundamentals of a respective discipline can lead to the kind of liberation that you mentioned, but under some circumstances it can lead to a degree of specialization that traps you, makes you comfortable, inhibits personal growth hence insuring you don't take chances and never have any "hits".

Think the same principle goes with hit websites as well, make one and everyone wants you to make another one. Also like the cook you need to understand the fundamentals to making a good site as well

as someone close to a person who's had a similar experience, this was interesting to read, he wasn't the total accidental nor the pro chef (real life always falls in the middle) and his process to prolong and/or translate the hit into other avenues and continued success has had successes and failures.

Solid post! I don't know exactly why but the book "Old Masters and Young Geniuses: The Two Life Cycles of Artistic Creativity" popped into my head... I suppose cause it deals with idea of how creative people reach their peak, make all their hits, etc...
